About Divanee

Divanee.com is very excited to announce Sabrina Siddiqui as the Managing Editor. Sabrina Siddiqui has been a dedicated writer and editor for Divanee.com since 2003.

Sabrina Siddiqui was 13 years old when she first ventured into the realm of journalism. Passionate about writing from a young age, it was at this stage in her life that Sabrina began writing film reviews for DesiClub.com, a position she held for four years. This experience coupled with multiple reporting endeavors led Sabrina to the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Journalism.

Sabrina has also served as a Contributing Writer to BusinessWeek.com, after completing a stint as an Editorial Intern in 2007. During her time at BusinessWeek, Sabrina worked on publications such as Fast Track: The Best B-Schools and Creative Capital: Georges Doriot and the Birth of Venture Capital. She also recently completed work on the book Gulf Capital and Islamic Finance: The Rise of the New Global Players.

As a result of her desire to provide South Asians across the globe with access to news, media and entertainment, Sabrina is also a Washington, D.C. Correspondent to The South Asian Times and DesiClub.com. In her final year at Northwestern, she took on the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief of Al Bayan, a Northwestern newsletter for Muslim students, and re-launched it as Al Bayan Magazine, a Chicago-based campus-wide publication for young writers, both Muslim and non-, to share an educated voice on politics, current events, arts and entertainment within the framework of Islam and its various perceptions.

Sabrina was born in Piscataway, NJ and grew up in Rome, Italy. Her other hobbies include fashion, dance, travel and cooking.

Miral Sattar founded Divanee Magazine in 2003 to speak to young South Asian American women about individuality, style, and personality in the community. It's about finding a place, being irreverent, battling outdated cultural notions and ideas. Sometimes it's just about getting a beauty tip. It's about not falling victim to outdated cultural notions like marrying by a certain age, picking a certain profession just because of your sex. We don't think "Hey, I can't do this because I'm a woman." We just do.

We won't tell you how to attract guys or anything that will make you demean yourself. We have stories of women who have battled against fitting inside the 'desi cultural box.' We cover politics, music and basically anything of interest to the young South Asian woman.

We dare to be different and we dare you to be a DIVANEE, crazy and passionate about what you do without feeling guilty.

We test our limits. We aren't afraid of being judged. We just are. We try to reach out to our readers and give them the unspoken voice.

"It's about giving people a platform they never thought they had before."

As always, feedback is continuously welcome and we encourage you to use the chat forum to discuss issues you feel are relevant to South Asian women. If there are any topics that you would like us to cover in upcoming issues, please post them in the discussion board or correspond with us via email at info at divanee dot com. We would love to hear from our readers.

Enjoy your visit and please continue exploring the rest of Divanee Magazine.
