CNN Photographers’ Portraits Celebrate Courage of Pakistani Women
Photographers Kaye Martindale and Geoff Brokate traveled through Pakistan for eight months taking breathtaking portraits of local women now featured on CNN’s photo blog. The photos are accompanied by captions that give insight into inequality and abuse these women face on a daily basis.
From Malala Yousafzai’s campaign for women’s education, to an innocent woman attacked for refusing a marriage proposal, the photos aim to put a face on these strong-willed women fighting against centuries of oppression. Kaye Martindale told CNN her goal was to,”Give a voice to women who aren’t heard, to show strong women like Malala, who can’t be stopped, who are so brave, so incredibly courageous.”
Martindale and Brokate’s portraits and corresponding story will be on display at the John Rylands Library in Manchester, England, on March 8, coinciding with with International Women’s Day.
