Ten South Asian Inspired Films To Be Shown At Toronto International Film Festival
Deepa Mehta’s film adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Midnight Children is just one of the several South Asian inspired films being showcased at the the 37th annual Toronto International Film Festival. Other critically-acclaimed Bollywood films like Gangs of Of Wasseypur and Vasan Bala’s Peddlers, which were shown at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, will be featured in the ‘City to City’ section dedicated to Mumbai.
One of the biggest attraction of the 11-day festival is Mira Nair’s Reluctant Fundamentalists which tells the story of a young Pakistani torn between Islamic radicalism and American capitalism in a post-9/11 world. Anna Karenina starring Keira Knightly and Bruce Willis’ sci-fi thriller Looper are also among the festival’s most anticipated films.
