NY 1 anchor and AVS host Joya Dass follows the journey of three blind children in India in her new documentary, “First Sight.”After making a trip to south India, Dass was inspired to make a film about the visual impairment and socio-economical barriers plaguing the country.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal she said, “If I could create a film that would go on to become an educational and fundraising vehicle for Sankara, my thirst for doing something bigger would be quenched…It takes a certain kind of person to look past all the inefficiency and the dirt to see how beautiful and magical the country is.” The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in March and will be screened again on Sept. 5th in New York as part of BBQ film’s rooftop summer series.
