Bollywood Threatens To Leave Mumbai After Attacks

After nearly a century in the city, The Film and Television Producers Guild has threatened to leave Mumbai as the government has failed to protect them from attacks and vandalism by local political parties. Earlier this week, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party allegedly smashed 15 vehicles on the set of John Abraham’s upcoming untitled film.

Guild head Ramesh Sippy warned Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan about the violence, saying, “Things have gone out of hand. We can’t do business at a place where there is always threat to life.” Moving out of Mumbai would have disastrous effects on both the city and Maharashtra, as the multi-billion dollar film industry employs roughly 3 million people.
