Saina Nehwal Wins India’s First Olympic Medal In Badminton


In a play-off for third place with China’s Wang Xin, Saina Nehwal won the bronze medal after her opponent conceded due to injury.After leading 21-18, Wang Xin was forced to quit the match after collapsing on the court twice with a knee injury, giving Nehwal India’s first bronze in the sport and third Olympic medal in London. Following her triumph, Nehwal said, “When she sat down I thought it was all part of getting tired, but it wasn’t…but it’s really unbelievable to get a bronze because we have all worked so hard for this. I am very happy to have been able to do this for my country.”
