“Midnight’s Children” Selected To Premiere At The 2012 TIFF
Deepa Mehta’s film “Midnight’s Children” will officially have its world premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Based on Salman Rushdie’s 1981 award-winning novel, the film centers on the story of two newborns born at midnight on August 15, 1947 on the dawn of India’s independence from Britain and are switched at birth. Mehta co-wrote with famous author to turn the 552-page novel, once seen as ‘unfilmable,’ into a cinematic masterpiece. In an interview with The Guardian, Mehta said, “If I was doing it myself it would be rather daunting…the fact that we like and respect each other is a good foundation for collaboration.”
The 10-day festival kicks off on September 6th.
