Mindy Kaling, PhD? Actress Mindy Kaling took time away from her pilot to promote her new rom-com, “The Five Year Engagement” with co-stars Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. Kaling plays Vanetha, a super sarcastic grad student, who becomes quick friends with Blunt’s character. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kaling says, “If anyone could look like a quintessential grad student it would be me, Indian American, comedy writer, me.” (Entertainment Weekly)
The sky is falling. After five years in the making, comedian Aziz Ansari will star in Seth Rogen’s new comedy “End Of The World”. The film, which revolves around two roommates living in squalor during an apocalypse, will also feature Jonah Hill, James Franco, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride. An act of defiance. “Slumdog Millionaire” star Dev Patel has just signed on to star in Bill Bennett’s film “Defiant”, based on the true story of a double honor killing in India. The drama delves into the story of two Muslim women who killed their daughters for eloping with Hindu builders. Patel will play one of the girl’s boyfriends trying to run away with his new love. Wedding bells for John. “Dhoom” actor John Abraham says he is set to marry girlfriend Priya this year. Shortly after a big split with actress Bipasha Basu in early 2011, Abraham and his soon-to-be fiancée began dating last April. However, there are no hard feelings between Abraham and Basu, who will reunite for a song in his new action flick “Shootout at Wadala.” (Times of India)
“Vicky Donor” at the top. Director Shoojit Sircar’s comedy “Vicky Donor” is proving to be a smash hit at the box office. The film rose to number one in its opening weekend, raking in Rs. 13.40 crore. The comedy revolves around a young, handsome Punjabi boy who is lured into becoming a sperm donor for a well qualified but unsuccessful fertility doctor. “The success of the film is the biggest example of audience getting mature”, said Sircar.
