Crafting Resort Wear with an Indian Flair: Kaftan Queen Roopa Pemmaraju

Resort wear designer Roopa Pemmaraju, also known as the “Kaftan Queen”, first started making waves under designer Tommy Hilfiger and Madura Garments.

Since launching her own label in 2006, the Melbourne-based designer has debuted intricate and inspiring beachwear collections, catching the eye of style editors and celebrities around the globe. Pemmaraju blends the unique cultures of both Australia and her native India in her pieces, adding elaborate embellishments to soft, billowy fabrics.

Pemmaraju also became the first Indian designer to participate in the exclusive Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in Sydney. Her “Beach Goddesses” collection, which incorporated bejeweled kaftans and printed cover-ups, officially launched her onto the international fashion circuit. Despite being a somewhat of a newbie, the “Kaftan Queen” continues to make a splash with her stunning resortwear season after season. Check out some of our favorite pieces.
