First Lady Michelle Obama Dons Naeem Khan for Another State Dinner
We already know that celebrities love Naeem Khan. No, really — we know. Last fall, we chronicled the rise of the Indian-born designer after First Lady Michelle Obama put him on a global map by wearing his creation to the White House State Dinner for India in 2009. Now it looks like Mrs. Obama isn’t over her Khan fix, as she opted to wear yet another one of Khan’s designs to the White House State Dinner for Germany this evening. Yes, you heard (or read, we should say) that right: to the State Dinner for Germany.
To borrow a catchphrase from her other half, let me be clear: It is not mandatory that FLOTUS wear a designer from the country of said state visit; nonetheless, there are certainly a plethora of options in Bundesrepublik Deutschland: Escada; Jil Sander; or even be dressed by Karl Lagerfeld, to name a few.
Instead Mrs. O, who is often referred to as the most fashionable first lady since Jackie Kennedy, looked resplendent in a sleeveless, ivory-colored Naeem Khan gown embellished with silver beads, white sequins and metallic thread in a geometric pattern (per The Huffington Post). She accessorized her look with simple drop earrings and neutral-toned bangles.
Verdict? We love. Let’s be real: She had us at Naeem Khan.
